VCE Psychology podcast – questions please.

Hi all,

As the VCE Biology podcast has been delayed somewhat I decided to go ahead with the next podcast interview topic which will be on VCE psychology with Kate Lefel of Access Education and recorded next Thursday 16th of April 2009.

Kate Lefel is a Senior Psychology Teacher at Wesley College, Glen Waverley Campus. Kate has had extensive experience teaching both VCE Psychology and IB Psychology at Wesley College for over 10 years, and aims to assist her students in attaining their highest achievable results each year.

As per usual I will need the assistance from the VCE help community, and in particular VCE psychology students.

Usually I ask some generic questions about:

  • How to best prepare for the Unit 3 course and strategies for leading up to the exam
  • Top 3 concepts that students have difficult with and strategies to best learn and memorise them

…but once again I need your help. If you have specific questions about the VCE Psychology course or content please write / comment below or (as a new initiative for 2009) we will also accept voicemail questions which can be left by calling 00111 206 984 9736  ( Calls cost usually 50-80 cents from mobile or landline). Please leave your name below as well so I can give you the credit you deserve.

After the interview I will edit the audio content and upload to the website ready for the VCE help community. The more questions you can ask, the more quality information we can collectively help you out with.

Cheers,

Heath

Awesome, I enjoyed her lecture at Box Hill Library.

I have a few questions from the Grivas textbook and some from my head.

    1. “Give an example of when a small child might have difficulty using shape constancy”
My question is would the answer be different if it wasn’t a small child?
which brings me to the next question.
    2. In your opinion, are visual constancies innate or learned? (i thought learned as the 1st question implied small child did not have shape constancy)

    3. In an experiment done by Toch and Schulte (1961) where they used binocular rivalry to determine if participants perceived the violent scene or the non-violent scene based on past experience what is the experimental design? (Participants were split into 3 groups – group 1 – complete police-style training, group 2 – just begun police style training and group 3 – university students.)

    4. Can binocular depth cues be seen in 2D films/photos? If no, does this make films/photos monocular as they only have one eye (lens)?

    5. Students in China perform eye exercises before starting school by rubbing their eyes. Are they trying to stimulate the ciliary muscle and would this help their eyesight?

    6. In the Ames Room, which visual constancies are being deceived and which are kept constant?

    7. In what lobes are smell and taste located in?

    8. Is anxiety a physiological or psychological response to stress?

    9. Predictions for this years exam? (such as poorly done questions on previous exams)

    10. I am currently reading “The man who mistook his wife for a hat” and am enjoying it. Are there any other books relevant to VCE psychology?

    Hi Heath
Still waiting for both the psychology and biology podcatsts, it would be greatly apprecitaed if you uploaded them them this week as the exams are very close and it would be motivating and refreshing to listen to a podcast beforehand.
