  1. worst lawrence passages!

  2. we did regeneration and gwen harwood’s poetry. i thought the passages for regen were awesome! so much to discuss, yet that also was a bit of an issue because of timing… gwen harwood’s poetry was also pretty good, though i ran out of time to discuss all three so i only got to do “nightfall” and “the secret life of frogs”. i wish i’d skipped “nightfall” and written on “night and dreams” instead but oh well!

Found it soooo hard, passages for Emma were really bad!!!

  4. I did Katherine Mansfield short stories which were new on the study list. No one I know did Mansfield- so I can’t really ask others how they went on their essay, but for me I felt they they were reasonable, with one of the passages being slightly unexpected (The Woman at the store)….how weird would it be if only a handful of students did Mansfield- I don’t know what the story is with the percent of students who choose new texts but it seems like hardly anyone chose Mansfield. Did anybody?

Information in the passages was fine for me. I had chosen Beowulf and Chekhov. However, as Chekhov’s work was a collection of short stories… trust VCAA to choose passages from the three stories I was far less familiar with -___-
Beowulf was much easier for analysis as the passages selected were rather predictable and it was a breeze to include textual evidence within a response.
Regardless, everything was valid and I believe I was able to present two sustained and detailed pieces of work for assessment.
    Here’s hoping a 40+.

  6. I did Hamlet and Gwen Harwood poetry… Hamlet was surprisingly easy and I felt really good when I finished the essay, but I realised then that I had eaten into my time for Harwood.. and the poems were one’s I’m not very confident with. All in all feeling pretty good, just hoping my A+ average SAC mark will pull me up. All I need is a 35! Hope everyone else went alright.

Raych. Did Mansfield as well, found the passages to be reasonable also.

There was a reccommended reading list for next year of her short stories and these passages were all from that list. Thank goodness I had read these stories through thoroughly, I don’t know what I would have done if I had not read them. Short stories are risky in that way.

That was so easy A+ for sure!!

  9. I did Frankenstein and Antigone. Antigone was easy, though it is an extrememly easy text to study so that was a given. Though I was disappointed with the Frankstein passages.. Did anyone else do Frankenstein?

  10. Yeh I did Frankenstein and Hamlet.
Hamlet was good, Frankenstein… ok but not the best passages.

I very much dislike Emma!!!! I’m not the best student, but I understand writing and I struggled immensly. Did Hamlet and Emma and I’m hoping and praying for a 35+.
Good luck to everyone else, hope you get what you want.

  12. I did Regeneration and Philip Larkin’s poetry. I found Regen’s passages to be a bit difficult, particularly the first one as I couldn’t remember a thing about it. The poetry wasn’t too hard though, I just threw about 49575693 pieces of language in there mixed in with everything else so here’s hoping it accounts for something :D

  13. I did year 11 lit in 2010 and am now doing year 12. Did anybody enjoy ‘Atonement’ by McEwan as much as i did? Beautifully written and captured, my favourite novel. :D

  14. The Tempest passages were absolutely brilliant! Very easy thread, rich with language and very good to analyse. Was very happy when I saw them.

Keats passages were alright… “If by dull rhymes…” messed things up a little, but overall weren’t too difficult.

Speaking about those two, it was a pretty fair exam I’d say.
