2010 Tertiary Offers – what’s next
By Heath McGregor on Jan 19, 2010 in Beyond the VCE, Goal Achievement, Motivation and Inspiration
It was a flurry of activity. Newspapers selling like iced water on a 40 degree day, gasps from anxious parents, shrieks and tears (from the ecstatic and the disappointed)…it can only mean one thing First Round Tertiary Offers are out. Finally the VCE graduates from 2009 are rewarded with the fruits of their labour as move towards further study and (finally) a life beyond the VCE.
For specific information regarding the exact steps you should take to accept, reject or get more information about your selections you need to read this informative article and visit VTAC.
As you are fully aware the VCE is a competition and like it or not in competition there are going to be some people who feel that they have “won” and some that feel that they have “lost” or missed out. It is important to understand that even if you feel that you missed out there is potentially an opportunity to grab a 2nd or 3rd round offer. So even if you were unsuccessful in this first round there are still other offers and opportunities to pursue. I spoke about this previously when the 2008 VCE results came out.
In the VCE and for that matter life, nothing is granted. You have to earn your rewards. Now that may be a bitter pill to swallow for some who have just completed their VCE and missed out on a tertiary placement. Don’t be disheartened. History is littered with examples of people who achieved something extraordinary, despite facing adversity and setbacks as they defied other peoples opinions of them.
Whatever the outcome of your VCE results and tertiary offers at the end of the day it won’t be a predictor of your abilities or success in life, nor will it guarantee that you will lead a happy and successful life…only you can choose the type of life you will lead. On that note I wish you every success in 2010 and beyond…whether that be further study, travel or employment.
